tranny issues

99 ram 1500 with 360.
truck would once in a while turn off the overdrive. so I thought " fluid and filter change"
well now its having a hard time shifting from 3rd into 4th. If i drop it to drive2 and then back to drive it will shift.
Its not slipping or anything so I don;t think the tranny is bad.

any ideas?

thanks

also, on a cold start it shifts fine. It was also shifting fine before the fluid and filter change. It was just shutting off the overdrive. a couple pushes on the button and it was fine.

what have i done

I believe this is still an electronic transmission, and since the thing will manually shift and it is not slipping it would indicate that the trans is fine, but the signal for the shifts are in trouble,
You may consider shift solenoid replacement. There are several solenoids responsible for these shifts. A faulty unit will give you these symptoms.

take estimate to dealer, see how close they can get for a "new" reman trans. dealer usually has better warranty.
