| I have gotten a lot of different information, but would like opinions on swapping my blown 318 in a 1977 3/4 ton automatic trans 4x4 for a rebuilt slant six. The exchange book says no, junk yard says yes If I use the six torque converter. Supposedly the 318 is internally balanced and the six is external, and if I use the six converter, I am ok, otherwise most everything bolts up, any thoughts, thanks ss. |

| i`m not 100% but most manufacturers use the flexplate when balencing an external balenced engine, although i can see it possible to have weights put on the converter, it would have to be bolted on to the flexplate in the correct correlation, otherwise it may shake like crazy! Is the slant 6 of the same year/make? Maybe they were just talking about the flexplate not the converter? P.S. WELCOME ABOARD!

| yeah i think they are talking about te flex plate not the converter... if it was the converter then they couldnt sell oem ones by themselves they would have to sell a hole motor with it... lol... i have never heard of such a thing so i wuld look into your sources a little bit more.. i say they are totally wrong.. they may be talking about bolt holes from the flex plate to the converter not lining up... or the splines not matching the trannys one... im sure there are conversions around or someone that has done it... anything is achievable now adays |

| You don't balance the engine with the torque converter or with the flywheel/flexplate. Those parts are balanced independently so that when mounted on an engine they will not disrupt the existing balance of the assembly.
