1988 Jeep Commanche

I was wondering if the rear axle from under a Cherokee or Commanche 4x4 will work in a Commanche 2x4. Also if im going to go that route, how difficult would it be to just swap in the whole 4x4 drivetrain. The pinion broke in the rear and now the truck wont move.

It's all time and money, but it would be quicker to rebuild the original!

Thanks, but my question was if the complete rear end from a four wheel drive Cherokee or Comanche would be compatible with my two wheel drive Comanche.

Sorry thought you also questioned the 4x4 drivetrain swap,

I did, but my main concern is getting the truck back on the road.

Can you identify if they are amc 35's or spicer/dana 44's and what ratio's are in them? I believe that will be the first step, but by tonight some forum dodge people may have more ideas. I take it rebuilding is out of the question, it is not that difficult

I havent actually checked the truck yet, my dad had it when it broke and he lives about 40 miles away from me. I have no idea as to what the axles are.

MILBURN is on a distinguished road
The xj's have spring over axle and the mj's have spring under axle.It works and will give you 4 to 5 inches of lift in the rear. Also the spring perches are either wider or narrower, can't remember.
