Flathead Six

I have a old grain truck with a flathead six.It doesn't have a starter but I found one that will fit off of another truck with the flathead six but I can't seem to get and any type of wrench or socket in there to get the 2 bolts out.

Nope I just can't seem to get any kind of wrench or socket onto the bolt because it hits the block.

That sounds strange. A photograph would clear up a lot of questions.

In the good old days, mechanis had to be creative to wrench on vehicles, I have some of the old tools my uncle adapted for certain tasks. sounds like this is one of them, if you can post a pic you may get some creative ideas

That is what I am thinking. I think I know what he requires, but I would like to see the situation before I suggest the wrong tool.

on some model vehicles, even newer ones, auto manufacturers came up with special tools that were needed to fix particular problems. this might be one of those deals.
can you take a socket and shorten it to make it work?? i have a 1 1/4 short well socket that has been cut down to remove the oil filter cap on 4 banger GM engines. a full size short well socket will not clear the intake.

There is just not enough room in between the starter and engine block to fit much of anything.I will try to get a picture.
