| 06 cummins AC problem?????????? I turned on my air and it worked fine. in about 20 seconds it turned hot so i turned the truck off in a few seconds i smelled something hot. i got to the compressor and it was red hot and smoking. so I poured some water on it tokeep it from catching fire. later that day i got a friend to help me so i could watch it when it came on it was fine and blew cold. after about 5 min it made a small noise like a light thump from the compressor but never stopped working. just to be safe i didnt run it anymore and had the wife take it to dodge today. the problem is they told her that some box had busted and filled the tube with something. gave her an estimate of around 2000 dollars told her that they had not gotten to the compressor yet. that i didnt really see smoke what i seen was the freon comming out of it.... if it was the freon why does it still work???????? and it was smoke that i seen because it flash boiled the water i was pouring on it. please give some insight if you guys can..... thanks very much |

| you sure it was the a/c compressor. it is mounted pretty low on the passenger side of the motor. if it was the compressor and it got that hot I would suspect the clutch bearing was seizing up.. might want to pop the clutch off and see what the bearing looks like.

| no should be a pretty simple swap. remove the belt off the clutch. unbolt the clutch and remove snap ring. clutch should come off after that (might need a little persuading, but be careful cause you can damage the bearings for the compressor shaft of you get too kinky.)
