Code 37

I have a 1997 Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 V-8 I am getting a check engine light and am reading code 37. I can't figure it out, some code charts say that 37 is for deisel engines, some say that it could be transmission temp. sensor or fan clutch wiring. Anyone else have this problem?

This is directly out of one of my manuals. The "note" is saying it should illuminate the check engine light. Hope it helps! 37**Torque converter clutchsolenoid CKT orTrans temp sensortoo high or lowOpen or short in CKT wiring or connectors. Voltage out of range at transmission temperature sensor input. Code 37

Ok, I have the Haynes Repair Manual and have that text. I am hearing a slight grinding noise that seems to be coming from the transfer case right before the upshift to 2nd and 3rd gear. I don't know if it is related to the code 37, but I have to think that it is. I had this problem a couple of years ago and took it to a transmission shop, but I can't remember what they did to fix it. ( bad record keeping) I like doing my own work and am trying to diagnose the exact problem.

Some of the dodge trucks were known for t-case problems. I think I would drain it and look for metal filings. Also, check the wiring and sensors at the tranny and t-case.
