| possible pcm failure neighbor has a 99 dodge that is throwing a p0601 code. they are complaining about high gas consumption but dont believe this is a related problem. poor people and would hate to see them spend 300 on something that might not need be replaced. is this code directly tied to just the memory or can it be something else?? i have suggested scanning it but wanted to get some info about this first. |

| not sure what the code is for but whenever it involves pricy parts changes a guy should exhaust himself to make sure its not just a wiring problem.... which is just so much FUN!!!

| P0601 - Internal powertrain control module fault condition detected (failed memory check) that is pretty much all the info i could get besides getting this one flashed or buying a new one. |

| i reset it yesterday with a code reader yesterday and it did go away. 30 miles of driving brought it back though. agree with you though. it does seem like it pinpoints the problem. |

| sorry bud This diagnostic applies to internal microprocessor integrity conditions within the control module. This diagnostic also addresses if the control module is not programmed. The following DTCs are diagnosed in this DTC table:

| cant post anything as no scanner has been hooked up. after doing some more reading, a new PCM is instore for this truck. from what i understand, the only problem is that it is not communicating with the memory. there really is no per say problem with the control module. i dont believe that this is devastating to the operation of the truck but does need attention. do you see any reason why the truck cannot be run for a short while with the communication failure?? |

| biggest problem would probably be your long term fuel trim seeing as the PCM probably can't store driveabilty info.
