1999 Dodge 2500 rpm rev

Background - 1999 Dodge Ram 2500, 5.9 V8, 4x4, long box, extended cab. The first issue that I have encountered is that when traveling down the highway the truck like to rev 200 - 300 rpm's and it feels like there is a hesitation. The truck is in OD when it happens.

Second, on inclines and sometimes not the truck will not want to down shift unless I step on it. other times it will down shift to what I call the half gear and go back up right away. It will not stay in that gear.

I have heard that this can be a bad tranny, a computer program issue, torque converter, etc...

Any ideas would be much appreciated. I know enough about trucks to be dangerous and am used to contributing to the parts houses. Thanks

sounds like a torque convertor lockup problem to me. not necessarily a problem with the converter or tranny itself.

Brad is right. The symptoms your describing is a result of the torque converter locking/unlocking.
