1998 Dodge 4x4 a/c vacuum leak

My pickup use to have a problem with the a/c blowing while the cruise was on and going up a hill. Now that I put my foot to the floor and got up to highway speed the a/c completely quit blowing and I smelled a distinct burning wire smell under the hood. I stopped and checked it out and saw nothing. Got back on the road and the a/c started working again.

Now my a/c works, but even the smallest amount of acceleration on the road makes my a/c stop blowing inside and it goes right out the defrost vents. When I slow down after it has stopped, I can hear the inside duck door slam shut. I took the glove box off and checked out the duck door opening and closing fine. I checked the vacuum line on the cruise under the battery and it's fine. I have not sprayed anything on the lines yet to see if I can detect a leak.

My 4X4 works fine and I know it works off vacuum. I used it on the deer lease lately.

I know it's a vacuum leak but I cannot see one anywhere.

I have noticed that over the past few years the truck idles rough but no check engine lights come on.

I am about to have to take it to a mechanic unless someone can think of a few more tips to check myself.

How well will a vacuum gauge work in the hands of someone knowing what there doing cause I sure don't.

please dont feel alone in this fight. you are by far the only person to own a dodge with these same problems. you mentioned that you checked out the door controller but i didnt think that these were vacuum controlled. mine is electronically controlled.
