how hard is it to change out a clutch ?

hey i have a dodge ram 3500 4x4 and i think it needs a clutch it presses almost to the floor before it disengages so i with 108,000 miles i think it is time for a clutch how hard are they to change? the local shop wants 750 just for labor i can get the parts for 250 or so and I have a pretty good shop. so i think i will do it for myself but wanted to know what i'm gettin into ? and they told me i will need to turn the flywheel is this true ?? thanks

year?? being a 4wd, it will be more difficult since you have the transfer case to contend with. not to bad. not familiar with the clutches in the one tons but a clutch is not too bad to replace. i have had to have flywheels turned before. just make sure that when they turn it, if this be the case, that they also turn the lip on the backside of the flywheel so that the distance stays the same. if this is not done, it could end in disaster. but again, this might not be your case.

you`ll have to use a hydraulic cylinder to spread the frame to get the crossmember out....silly dodge. thats for the 98-02 style....? not sure what your truck is.

I know on my friends 97 dodge, we unbolted the trans from the motor, unhooked the driveline, and slid the transfer/transmission back and did the clutch..... not too bad........ when you have the clutch off, check your flywheel, you may want to pull it and take it to a shop and have them look it over..... my friends flywheel had developed minor cracks, and had to be replaced..... but he also has a bullydog with an edge/w additude juice chip piggy backed on it....... he fried his clutch do th the horse power........... Be sure you use a torque wrench when going back together...... or big ka blewy

Thats a misconception, you can side the crossmember back without spreading the frame.
