Question How to replace heater core

I have a 2003 Ram Quad 4x4 with the 4.7 in front of an auto trans registering 167xxx miles...

While I live in N.Texas...we have some cold freezing days in the winter months.

For the last 2 years I have driven with out heat...3rd heater core has developed (as all before) a serious leak. I bypassed the core to get by...but I realy want to have heat this year. I work construction and things just haven't been good enough that I can spend the usual $7-900. the repair shops want around here.

The core is only $60-70. and I can handle puting it in BUT I haven't any idea how to disassemble the dash to get to it. Does anyone here know where I can get info on how to remove the dash??

Any help is appreciated....

First of all welcome and hello from coastal TEXAS. I say go at it you have a long time till winter just remember where each bolt goes maybe you should take pictures as you go along. And where are you buying your cores from?
Good luck! GMC

Question Heater Core

All previous heater cores have been dealer ordered and shop installed...I wish I knew why I keep eating cores .

What I realy want to find out is where and what type of fasteners I need to remove to release the entire dash to get at the HC. I'm just not going to pay to have someone do this job again.

Since I have such bad luck with these heeter cores, I need to learn how to do this job myself.

Winter is a way's off...but I want to be proactive and fix this ASAP.

Thanks again for any help....

Rick

I find "Forums" the best place to get and give help from real people who love their rides and like to keep them up to par themselves as much as they can...and not a fraid of getting greasy or skined knucles...it's my theropy from a desk job.

Thanks everyone....

I have replaced several heater cores on dodge trucks. Your truck will not be that bad. Start on the sides. remove solid mounting bolts the there will be a pivot bolt on each side. this will allow you to reck the dash forward after you remove the top bolts and the steering colomn.Be sure to unplug all wiring and vaccume hoses running to evap housing. I think with a little nudge you will be able to handle it justfine. Remember, don't think about it, just go with it. If you end up with a few left over bolts (2-3) you did awsome. GOOD LUCK

alldata will only tell you a little part of it. I looked it up and it says remove dash then evap housing. so your best bet is to go at it
