| there are issues with auto trannys in the earlier units, and mileage on the cummins is a null subject, they are tough long lasting motors. i`d get a 06-07 myself. pre-dpf (deisel particuate filter)

| As Stumpy says, the Cummins is a great motor, and 180k wouldn't bother me on one of those.

| Well, I don't have a Cummins in my Dodge, just a little old 3.9L gas engine. My GMC has a 6.5L Detroit Diesel though and I'm quite happy with it. And, with just 75k on the clock, hardly even broken in yet.

| another thing i know bad about a dodge in general is that when the ball joints go bad , you have to replace the entire control arm to fix them. its the only way to buy them as far as i know. |

| Yeah, that's one of the things that really surprises people when they learn it, that by and large a diesel is good for 3x the mileage a gas engine will give you. I don't expect anything less than 400k out of mine before it needs a rebuild, and I'll probably get 500k. The other thing that surprises people is the fuel efficiency of a a diesel. A typical gas engine burns fuel with about 95-96% efficiency (100% = complete combustion) while a typical diesel is about 99.5% efficient.
