this should help

the second one is the 727. this is probably what you have. match up the pan with these pics of gaskets for identity. i marked the file names with what they fit.

Torquflite 727 is not an OD trans, so it won't be that one. 904 also is not a OD trans, so it won't be that one either.

Welcome to the forum Domino.

Based on what you said about truck and my guess that it's a 2wd,
the OE=53008148 and the AB body type come back as a 46RH.
May have a new dodge/mopar #R3008148AA but be careful with that
since i believe that is the number style for their rebuilts.

What is it you are trying to fix/improve ?

yes you are correct it is a 2wd i'm trying to get parts to replace the torque converter and rebuild the clutch packs it went out on me over the weekend and i keep getting asked by the parts guys is which one do you have----a727 a500 a518 a904 ---- i just need to know which one it is or if there is a better or easier way to identify this tranny so acquiring the parts will be much easier on me. i'm not junkin the truck it is in almost perfect condition and has about 300k on it. just tryin to repair a back up family vehicle.

Info I have with gov recalc'd in early 92 says:
(these are slightly higher shifts than original)

46RH = A518 shift1-2=17-21mph, shift2-3=24-28
42RH = A500 shift1-2=16-18mph, shift2-3=21-25
36RH = A727 shift1-2=15-18mph, shift2-3=20-22
32RH = A999 shift1-2=15-17mph, shift2-3=19-22

46RH DIESEL = A518 shift1-2=12-13mph, shift2-3=15-17

I am not a tranny guy so don't spend a lot of non-refundable money
before you are sure of info. Just hope this gets you closer.
I don't know which parts may be interchangable/same either.

Where are the tranny guys hiding ?

Can you not get you a tranny pan id chart and ID the trans. Should be a 2 minute deal. I can eleiminate 2 of those for you. You said its an OD trans, so its NOT a 727 or 904. Do you have a digital cam? Get underneath it, take a pic of your pan and post it. I can problaby tell you in about 2 minutes after I see the pic of the pan.

My best guess is the 518, so I'm going to be interested to see which it really is.

Actually just found an ID history. The A518 didn't happen in the Ram 1500 until 95. The 90-92 shows to be a A500 in both V6 and the 5.2L V8, 2wd and 4wd. So its likely the A500 according to this chart I just looked up.
