Replacing a 4.7l with a 5.9l

I have a 2002 ram 1500 4.7l and manual tranny. I blew the engine for the second time in 100,000 miles i love the truck but the engine sucks so i am thinking about replacing the 4.7 with a 5.9. Can anyone give me an idea what else i'm going to have to do to make my truck compatable with a 5.9l?

Thanks

My '02 Dodge has the 5.9 and it's a bulletproof motor. Mine now has 130,000 hard miles and so far, I've replaced the belt twice, changed the spark plugs once, and changed the oil every 5000 miles. Motor has never been serviced.

Swapping your 4.7 though would be a tricky job. Sure the motor will bolt right up but you also have to change the computer. Then program the computer. I think the radiators are also different. 5.9 gas mileage is way lower than the 4.7 too. Have you tried looking for a 2nd generation 4.7? That'd be an easier swap.

5.9 is a good solid engine but she tends to be thirsty. few numbers though. the 5.9 magnum with MPFI comes stock with 245 hp and 345ftlbs of torque. the 5.7 hemi which gets alot better gas mileage than the 5.9 magnum comes stock 345hp and 375 ftlbs of torque. yeah it costs a bit more but what does 100 horses costs on an engine. probably worth the costs if you do it by the numbers.
