I looked on a hemi site and they show a couple of air filter configurations that are supposed to give you better mileage on the 5.7. Anybody know if these things really work? They are priced from $200 to $350 or so which is pricey but might be worth the money with gas edging back up over $2.65 now. Pete

I've heard reports both ways on those. Some swear they get better mileage, others swear the mileage got a lot worse.

I think, if I were in your place, I'd go without for now, until I see what the unmodified gas mileage is like. Then I might explore all my options and consider how long it might take to break even on the modification.

BernieB that sounds like good advice. I go get the truck at 4:30 this afternoon so then I can start checking all this out. I just hope the Hemi is at least half of what it's cracked up to be. Pete

tHE 5.7 IS REALLY A NICE ENGINE. lOTS OF GUTS AND PLENTY OF GO. I'm working on the first tank of gas so we'll see what the MPG will be around town. The truck itself is exactly like the old one and most of my neighbors don't even know it's a different truck. You sure know the difference when you punch the gas though. Pete

Keep in mind, your mileage is likely to improve also after a good thorough break in. My GM Trucks all seemed to do OK brand new, but it seemed like after about 8000-10,000 miles they'd get a mile to a mile and a half better mpg.

guessing you are liking this setup far better than the original?? this could be a win win situation for you all the way around if it identical to what you had before minus the power gains.

Hotrodpc this is a used truck. Same year 06 as the other one just with the 5.7 and it's a 2500. It already has 45k miles on it.
As for it's being better than the half ton OOOOOH YA! Way better and it really scoots when you hit the pedal. Only used a quarter of a tank of gas so far. I don't really drive a lot anymore. No place to go yet. Pete

Cool, so it all broke in then. I have always liked 3/4 ton trucks better for several reasons. Biggest one being, they drive like a truck. Nice firm ride. Usually are a bit lower geared so you really feel the torque. Suspension parts usually cost a bit more, but they also handle much more abuse, and if you are not abusing the suspension, the parts last longer. I am one that is willing to suffer a bit of mpg to have a 3/4 ton over a 1/2 ton. Sounds like you made a good move.
