![]() ![]() if you were working on the alternator or AC compressor, it was a breeze. ignition?? better have some skinny arms. they got geometry right for that engine anyways. the whole thing is on the passenger side so you would figure it would make the vehicle tilt in that direction. kudos to them. they made up for that junk with the invention of the 318.

| Yep, followed up by the 340. Not sure why the 340 didn't make it more into production cars. I assume Dodge just wanted it to be coined the Hi Po Small Block. Those slant 6's had to have an awful lot of torque to bend that block over like it did. Amazing how it didn't spill all the oil out of itself. ![]()

Thanks for your replys and maybe with all your help I'll get something done here. My "Stealership" ( I love that) doesn't want to talk to me about the engine swap. All they want to do is sell me another truck and of course give me only half of what is still owed on the 06. I have all the info on the truck so here goes; Engine= 3.7L Magnum(R) v-6 Tranny=4 speed automatic VLP 42RLE Rear axle= 3.92 ratio with anti spin differential Give me a few minutes and I'll post a picture of the window sticker so you will have all the info.

mt BIL has a dakota with the 3.7 magnum. the only difference between the original and the magnum is different heads and a couple of other small items. this produced on average 20 hp more than its predecessor. i dont know how much highway time your truck sees but in the event that the lockup on the torque converter is not actuating, this would cause fuel economy to shoot way down. this would also fail to show a DTC on the ECM. your 3.92 gears are almost a full half rotation greater than mine so you would be great in pulling a trailer. you should not be getting the mileage that you are.

Here is a picture of the window sticker of the 06 gas guzzler; I don't see how to enlarge this on this forum but I hope you can.

How can I tell if the torque converter lockup is working? Does having the OD and the towing package have any effect on that? Also I imagine that there is some difference between the full sized P/U and the Dakota with the Dakota having a much better power to weight ratio. Also I have the standard air filter in the truck. Everything is totally stock as it comes from the factory. Where can I get a service manual for this sicks cylinder truck? At the risk of appearing stupid, what's a DTC and a ECM? Most of my driving is around town. Don't get out on the highway much and have not taken any trips with the truck.

when shifting through the gears, you should feel something like another gear after you hit third. it will drop engine speed somewhere between 250 and 400 rpms. this is not a gear but locks the TC up to gain 100% of engine power and direct it into the input shaft of the tranny. you want the OD as this helps with highway speeds when unloaded. like i said, its like a whole nother gear. you are right about the power to weight ratio but it would not have that much differance. the sticker says 16 in town and you are getting 11.5. i told you my truck gets better than yours with oversize tires and a much larger block. big difference in service manuals and chiltons. chilton can be found at autozone for 20 bucks. service manuals have to be ordered and usually run well over a c note. maybe someone can chime in about where you find them as i bought one from a friend of mine. and no, it doesnt cover your truck. heck, it dont cover mine either nor have i ever owned one that it covers.

Unfortunalty the one I happen to buy did. They had it in stock on the lot. The big thing was that I wanted a full sized box on the truck and all the 3/4 ton trucks had the short box. Wouldn't fit my RV and the tool box. Wuldn't fit the RV alone either. Shoulda bought a FORD. Last edited by Norgale; 10-10-2009 at 07:03 AM.

Brad. I do get the drop in RPM's like you described so I'd say the lock-up is working fine. Maybe it's the low geared rear end that is giving me the lousy mileage. Then again maybe it's the little engine in a large truck. As for the manual can't we get the ones that Chrysler prints for the dealers?Pete
