It's prolly clogged. You can run a fuel cleaner but that will dirty your cats, so I think your best bet would be to replace your pump...maybe it's not your pump maybe you have a clogged filter??

Let us know what you find out!

fuel pumps usually go out with age and/or dirt. your truck is 9 years old. that pump is running everyday the whole time you drive it. it could just be worn out. or the diesel fuel you use (3500 usually equals a diesel) has just contaminated it. it leaves soot and like every engine has the fuel additives that sometimes get left behind. if you buy a pump and do it yourself, expect it to be upwards of $150. if you go to a dealership, you can probly double that price just for the part, then you have labor. but it would be worth it to take it to a dealer. most are in the tank and are a pain in the butt. id rather pay someone else to do it. also, a fuel filter would be a good idea too. they are recommended every 30,000 miles. these are just a few bucks. hope i could help.

Actually, 97 could be a 360, v10, or ctd...most often I see v10s.

If it is a gasser...the pump is probably dead.

If it is a diesel (97 would have mechanical lift pump and a mechanical injection pump), then you most likely have something clogged or the pump has died...they are relatively cheap to rebuild. If it is a diesel and you are out of warranty, take it to a Cummins dealer/service shop...they do much better work that DC and will be about 1/3 of the cost if you take it to DC. Additonally, you could have a crack in the fuel line (common problem) and you just are not getting a prime to the pump.
