Ram won't start

okay, now im side tracked on another project. My friends 1983 Power Ram with the 318 won't start. We had it running, and it stopped after filling it with gas. The carb seemed to be messed up, and there was gas on the plugs. We took them out, dried them off, got it fired up, but it stalled in the middle of the road. Got a brand new carb, it fired up, stayed fired for 15 min. Now it won't start again. Checked timing, plugs are all in right place, but we found another problem. We took the distributor cap off, and the rotor was loose?!? It had torn up the inside of the of the cap. We then replaced it, but it still won't start. We talked to a mechanic buddy of ours, and he said it could be the igntion inside the distributor which is right under the rotor. Anyone got suggestions? We are taking it out right now, but just in case this doesnt work, im posting this. Thank you.

NEVERMIND. Come to find out a girl who's boyfriend drove this came over today. He apparently took it to a field and stuck it in mud. They got the distributor wet, took it out, messed up the firing order and put it back in. IDK how this thing ran but it did. Until now. Replaced distributor, got firing order right, adjusted timing, and it runs fine now.
