Does this sound good?

I was looking to pick up a truck and saw this ad..

2000 Dodge 1500 Laramie. Loaded, power everything. 7' Fisher Minute Mount Plow. 16k, 5th wheel, full tow pkg, red/silver. 87k highway miles. $12,900.

Does it sound good or not?

if you're just going to use it for driving around town, its fine. for towing alot, you'd want a bigger truck like a 2500, which has a heavier duty tranny in it, and can handle the load better.

I wouldnt take it...strictly because its been used for plow work. The older Dodge 1500's really couldnt take the plow work on the front end and it messed up alot of things. So Id say pass....

I disagree with what 84 said as far as towing. I have a 1500 used for a two horse trailer and its fine. Unless you're doing massive towing you really dont need a 2500.
Anyway, back on topic...

But by all means keep looking at Dodges

I have a 98 Ram 1500 sport, 5.9 ltr on a 6" lift w/ 35x12.50x15 tires and have no problems pulling an 1800 lb trailer with my sandrail and 3 wheeler, plus camping gear (you can see the truck at the post "this is something new"). If it has been used as a plow, I would really check under the body, frame and brake lines for rust from the salt. Good luck

When I say everyday towing, I mean a 16' trailer with 3 zero turn mowers, a 36" walkbehind mower, 6 trimmers, 6 edgers, and 6 backpack blowers on it, which can get kinda heavy. I used to do landscaping for a living so I kinda have some experience with this field.

Smile

I've had know problems towing a 89 jeep cherokee from Pittsburg PA to NJ and a 93 Chevy 1500 from No. CA to NJ and I'm getting ready to move the stuff to North Carolina.

As with any used car purchase (unless its from a dealer) Id have it checked out by your mechanic. He will be able to tell you if its in good shape or not.

Yes thats true...you can carfax it if you dont want your mechanic to take a look. Or you can do both. Whichever you prefer...
