| 89 Dodge D350 Coolant Leak question Hiya All, Well after figuring out my battery problem LOL. I've discovered another one. I've replaced the water pump, and the Thermostat. No leaks whatsoever after doing the test drive. Now couple months later, If I drive the truck for about an hour or so, I turn the truck off and I get Coolant dripping off the engine. It also is hard to start and when it starts the Temp Gaugue is Way up, until it idles then the temp gauge goes back down to normal. The Coolant run off is coming from around the water pump area, center of engine when looking at it from the front. it doesn't over heat or drip while its running, only after I shut it off, say at the gas station (since it will pass everything but a gas station) for instance, or the grocery store. If I remember correctly I put the lower temperature thermostat in it after finally finding one as the engine runs reall hot with the recommended one in it. Any possible suggestions. Thanks |

| 20 bucks says that it is leaking when it is running too. the engine is evaporating it before you can spot it. as for the temp gauge going down like that, when you shut it down, the water temp is going to keep rising because it is not being cooled off through the radiator like it is supposed to. the temp will be higher until you start the engine and let it start flowing through your coolant system again. if you think that it is leaking from the pump, take it off and permatex it. if it is coming from somewhere other than that on that pump, take it back and have it replaced. as for the different thermostat, remember this. they put that degree thermo in there for a reason. if theyt put that 180 in there, which i think it takes, someone at dodge engineered it to do that. if you change the temperature, it will ultimately throw your engine off a tad unless you compensate. |
