Dud dakota

Well i drove a 2004 dodge dakote crew cab 4wd yesterday. I put about 300 miles on it taking care of a broke helocopter away from home base. Anyhow i had to drive thru some hills and turn and i found the fully loaded v6 dakota to be the most gutless truck I have ever driven. it cant get out of its own way. i didnt have anything in the bed, or any extra part in the truck. Just me. Anyhow if i was looking for a truck, i would avoid the dakota with the v6. it shouldnt have been produced in my opinion. A complet waste of a truck. it only has 34000 miles on it.next time i will take the little s-10 much faster and handles alot better. Just wasnt available yesterday. Anyhow this is my 2004 dakote report. Enjoy and be safe.

pretty much anything with a v6 shouldnt be bought, except one of those old turbo v6 buick's. V6 and pickup truck do not match.

I have owned several $.3 Gm motors and they performed great. I expected remotely close performance out of the dodge but didnt get close. Oh side note my 4.3 were in a full size, this dodge v6 was in the little mini truck from dodge, so expecting close performance should have been very feasable.

The 3800 V-6 from GM is a nice little motor, good mileage and good power. It is the one I would chose. I have had 3 Chevy Astros with the 4.3 and they all were very good. Not sure what was wrong with the Dakota you drove, the V-6 in them usually perform real well. You must have gotten one that needed TLC or a tune-up, or like you say a "dud". And if I go "foreign" the V-6 RidgeLine from Honda runs REAL well. But I have been a MOPAR nut since 1966, and will defend them for a LONG time.

Its the 2nd dakota in the fleet, they both run about the same. The little 2wd standard cab we had wasnt too bad, but a club cab 4wd flat out stink

Not wanting to "jab" car salesmen but I wonder if the Dakota's order sheet was filled out by one of the MANY car salesmen that "know it all" and he marked the box for 2.92 ratio or 2.73 ratio rather than 3.73 or similiar. You know as well as I that they can make many mistakes and not know it, and that tall gears (for a truck) can KILL the driveability of it.

No argument here. That's why I got the V-8. I don't haul helicopters with it, but we tow a stock trailer with 4,000 lbs of horse in it, and it does really well.

Plus, when there's no trailer, it's fun to whip butt on people driving supposedly much faster cars. The thing sucks gas, tho.
