| why do rams have 2 mufflers? i looked underneath and for some reason they got the longer bigger main muffler and then directly behind the tailpipe is another smaller one. is it for emissions or soemthing? Last edited by devildog75; 08-07-2006 at 11:44 AM. |

| Uhhh I have an 02 and I only have one muffler... the long one you mentioned. Well not anymore now because I had it replaced with a Flowmaster and the piping made to fit, but yea. There'd be no reason for there to be two mufflers on the same line.

| That is odd... I know a guy with a hemi... but its an 03 and I've never been under it to tell you if theres 2 things that look like mufflers under there. Are you sure its not the catalytic converter? Thats the only thing I can think of...

| i think (correct me if i am wrong) in 04 Dodge started putting on the extra muffler because of too many complaints (from old fuddy duddies i assume) of the stock truck being too loud. my buddie has an 03 and it has a nice rumble (for stock) and another friend with an 05 and it sounds like my grandma drives it! | i think its basically just to keep it quiet. i've seen a jaguar with the same deal your talkin about...it had dual exhaust, each one had a regular lookin muffler, then a smaller one towards the tail pipe, so 4 mufflers total. makes sense that they'd be on a hemi, those trucks are pretty **** loud just cut them out if you want some more of that deep sound, might even free the exhaust up a little bit. |

| if they wanted to quite the ride, then why didn't they just redesign the house they call a muffler instead of adding another one.

| yeah i think that would be best. i was going to get the flows 50 hd muffler in there, but leaving the second one muffler and that flows muffler would be a waste. |
