99 dodge 2500 diesel a/c cuts out

the a/c unit cuts out after 7 to 10 min. There is no power comming out of the powertrain control modue. After it cooles down and eng. is restarted it works again for 7 to 10 min. Question is can I by pass the pcm with out hurting the a/c system. also where can I find a pcm without going to the dealer,, to pricey from them $ 1400 + Thanks for any help Jim

Haven't looked at a wiring diagram for a diesel in a LONG time so I am going to "SWAG" this...Since you said it works when cool and cuts off after 7-10 mins of running then it is temperature sensitive, on some applications there was a A/C cutout switch on the engine(under full throttle the A/C was turned off to give full power to the motor). If this switch is getting hot and breaking down it could be cutting out the A/c. I REALLY hate to replace the pcm, TOO much money, so I always chase everything else before I do. New thought: have you started the cold or cooled down motor with the A/C turned OFF, run for 7-10 mins to gets things warm, and turned the A/C on? If it works from that point on for 7-10 minutes than it is in the A/C circuit.(my thoughts here are on the A/c circuit, high pressure switch, low pressure switch, clutch circuit or coil. cool it works, on drawing too much load getting hot, and the pcm senses it and turns it off) If it doesn't work, than it is in the pcm, wiring harness or a sensor/switch somewhere that is temperature related.
