cold Ram

Hello everyone!

i have a 97 Dodge Ram and the heater dosen't seem to work like it should, water temp is good, just flushed the cooling system and checked the blower wich works good. funny part is the air coming out of the vents gets warmer when i rev and hold the engine speed at 2000 rpm, let it drop to idle gets cooler. any suggestions?

Wow, you may be the second or third guy who has this problem, or at least this symptom regarding the heater. Those guys were from the Chevy board I think. When you mention you've checked the blower, did you mean if its working? or did you mean you've checked the heater core itself? The Chevy board guys did a thermostat replacement and purged the system of air. If that did'nt work then they went straight to the heater core. You know, my '93 Chevy is in the 260,000 miles and I've never had this problem like the others. 260,000 mile is like to the moon and back.

heater problems

Did you reverse flush the heater core. This means to hook up a clean water supply and run water in the reverse direction through the heater core. Garden hose works best.

Reverse? Would that be with the core out of the truck?

yes when i flushed the system not only did i do an entire system flush i then flushed the heater core itself, both ways multiple times blowing it out with compressed air after each rinse. how do you guys purge the air out of the system?

Let the engine warm up with the radiator cap off. As the coolant circulates the air from the block will move to the radiator.

ive fixed a dozen of these things all with the same problem, its a vac leak somewhere usually on the transfer case, let me guess when u drive down the road with the heater on pannel it blows heat until u get on it and then it automatically goes to the defrost vents. and your 4x4 "light" may or may not be doung the same thing.
