engine swaps

anyone know if the bellhousing patterns on a 360 are interchangable with a 318?? im thinking about working on a mud toy and want to know if i can take the engine out of the motor home and drop in there.

there the same block, they just changed the oiling system and screwed up the heads in the later motors.

yes you can swap them

They have the same bolt pattern and will bolt right up. The only difference is the external balance of the 360. Just make sure you keep the 360's torque converter and harmonic balancer with the 360 motor. If you are swapping to a 318, you just need to either remove the torque converter weight, or use a converter from a 318 setup. Other than that it is an easy swap.

all i was planning on doing was taking out the scrap 360 and putting in the 318. old wise tale around here has always been to keep the converter with the tranny. i might end up using the hole power train out of the RV and put that in the truck. but everything has to line up and fit the tranfer case as well.

put some swampers on the r.v. instead so the whole family can go mudding. i wonder if anybody has done this yet?

i dont plan on it so dont even ask. i havent even started tearing either one of them down yet. i was stuck replacing a transmission seal yesterday on the pete in my pic. sat, i was down and out being sick. seems like everytime i turn around, it is something else. if i knew the block was still good, i would go and get a ignition module for the 360 because that is all that it is missing. i dont reckon the module off of the 318 would work??
