99 dodge 2500

four wheel drive after putting it into, then I start to go forward it makes a popping like sound, and almost like a jerking movement while it does this. any help?

check out the transfer case. does it do it the hole time in 4wheel? if so then change the transfer case. i had to do it when i had a 4x4 samuri

does the whole truck jerk or just the steering wheel. I'd check the auto hubs before diagnosing a transfer case problem.

I did not drive it any more than 50 feet took it out of four wheel drive. then it stopped.

i had a problem like that. i was told to put it into 4wd and drive forwards about 50 feet and then take it out of 4wd and reverse the same. something about the hubs not completely disengaging. it worked on ours.
