Excessive smoking on cold start

Good afternoon,

I write this after getting off the phone with my local Dodge dealership service manager and am a little frustrated so hang with me. Have any of you been told you aren't "working your truck hard enough"? I bought this truck new in October of last year, I have owned two other Dodge diesels prior to this 2006 model, a 1999 2 wheel drive and a 2004 4x4. No problems to speak of from either truck but now I am having one.

My truck recently began smoking like a freight train when I first start it up in the mornings or after sitting for more than a few hours and running very rough until it cleans itself out. My first thoughts were that it has a dirty injector that is leaking while it is sitting idle (possibly trash from manufacture). I carried it to the local dealership (it has ~10,000 miles on it) so they could give it a once over and they are telling me that these new trucks aren't designed to be used as daily drivers. I pull a 35' travel trailer (infrequently) and a 20' utility trailer frequently but not daily.

Also, do any of you know how to translate the "trip time" showing on the computer into regular "engine hours" or "run time"? The computer is showing it has ~3500 trip hours and I haven't OWNED the truck for that many hours let alone RAN it for that much.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

I would get a second opinion!! don't ever trust a dealer they won't ever do what needs to be done. I always say that I am my own warranty station!! take it to a diesel mechanic. if you want just call mine Jason at dieselnut motorsports (916) 760-1532 he will tell you the truth he has never done me wrong!!
