After replacing the water pump, pressure flushing the radiator, new thermostat and heater control valve the coolant still turns rust color after just a few hundred miles. It overheats a bit during city driving with heat/AC off. Any suggestions ?

Thanks
Ward

Check your head gasket. that would be my first guess before suggesting trading it in that dodge for a chevy....lol. But no really, if you replaced all those parts, that would indicate to me that there is an internal leak, and those usually come from blown head gaskets. its either that or internal problems. just my opinion though......

Welcome to the site ward3913;
Sounds to me like you have a fair amount of rust, and corrosion inside if the block, and radiator. If the radiator is plugged, or passages are blocked, you probably will fight this problem for many miles, until it eventually wins. Short of removing the radiator, and having it rebuilt, I doubt you will remove all of the debris from the problem areas with your pressure flushing procedure. I am assuming this is the garden hose at home method? This is pretty good when the system is being flushed for routine maintanence, but it sounds like you ae a little beyond that. If the corosion is bad enough, you will be wanting to take things apart a little further anyway. It will be better to start looking at stuff from the inside. A bad radiator never breaks down in the driveway, and never does it on the way home from work. Always on the way to something important, like fishing, or hunting, man I hate that....
Good luck.
