strange noise

I have 1988 dakota, sounds like the universals are shot, but they are rock solid. I hear a bunch of pinging when I step on it. any thoughts?

It could be a couple things.

1: Incorrect grade of fuel
2: Incorrect spark plugs
3: Fault in the fuel or electrical systems
4: Faulty emissions system
5: Vacuum leak

Hope this helps. Good Luck
