Newb Question on old truck Hi all, I have a 1975 D100 Power Wagon that my Father-in-law bought new. I'm just wondering if it is at all rare as it seems most PW's are heavier than a 100.

| No vacuum line to check, sorry. Torqueflite 904,right? Probably whoever reasealed the trans put the valve body gasket in wrong, and blocked off some holes,so no fluid can flow,or left out,or mispleced a spring,or check ball. You should get with the P.O. and find out what shop did the work, and take it back, and make them fix it. P.O. should help you with this. Did he disclose there was a trans problem, before you bought? If you can't get a warrenty repair, this should be a fairly easy repair.I seriously doubt you need a rebuild.Torqueflites are nearly indestructable, unless they have been intentionally abused.Unfortunately, most trans shops are rip-off artists, who just want to sell you a rebuild job,and most general repair shops won't touch an automatic trans. So,you may have to do it yourself. Get a transmission manual, read up on it,and see if you think you can handle it.All that should be necessary is to drop the pan, remove the valve body, replace any springs, and check balls properly, replace the valve body with the gasket correctly installed, and replace the pan. (I think I am probably right, but remember, free advise is worth every penny you pay for it! Good luck! Cheers! Bruce

bradrhale: That 4hi, 4lo, and loc is because the truck has a Np203 transfer case. It is a full time 4 wheel drive with no locking hubs. That sucka is in 4x4 all the time. It has a center differential to allow it to run in 4x4 on the swtreet without tearing up stuff. The "loc" locks the differential so it applies power equally to both fromt and rear axles. Kinda fun!!!!

Hi Brad, the truck is well worth having. I live in an area where we have snow from anywhere around November until possibly into May, and the 4 wheel drive on this old beast can't be beat! Mine has just over 100,000 miles on it and I would drive it anywhere. Unfortunately with the price of gas these days I try to limit the length of trips, but I'll be driving it up to the lake this weekend to help a friend pick up a shed, about a 150 mile trip each way, and I don't hesitate to use it for these kind of jobs. I am going to have to do some major rebuilding soon, partly because of rust issues and partly just because of age, and I wonder how seiously I should attack this. Is it worth doing a complete body off, or should I do a partial just to make some improvements? That's why I'm wondering about the value and rarity. I hope someone here can help me out by even pointing me in the direction I need to go to find this stuff out. Thanks All Gordo

there are not a lot of power wagons out there so as for rarity, maybe. like 75 said though, with that trandfer case, they are tons of fun. do a little at a time as you go along and will be easier on pocket book.
