engine throwing oil out dip stick

My husbands 1979 Ford F350 one ton truck with a 460 engine is throwing oil out the dip stick terribly. The entire engine is coated in oil. He has checked the PVC valve and it has suction when he disconnects it. Do you have any ideas for him? It was his late fathers truck and he would be heartbroken if the engine went.
Thank you for any help!

Welcome to the site.
Too bad about the truck, but lets see if we can shed some light on it. MAybe it is not that bad

We should first starrt by asking what is different between before and now? You checked the PCV, but that is only half of it. What is the condition of the vent on the oil fill cap on the other side of the engine? How is the original air cleaner where the hose attached to the cap? Is the hose still attached? IS the originall air filter closed element system still on the truck?
Are you absolutely positive that the PCV is not partially stuck?
Any amount of air flow that is disturbed may cause this problem. It is pretty common with the 460.

I agree with 75k30 to check the PCV and check to see that the valve cover is venting properly. If those are all fine then it could be the rings going. In that case I would do a compression check on all of your cylinders.
