| I get around 12 with 40 inch rubber and 5.13 gears. My Excursion with 38's and 4.88's gets about the same. They both do thier share of trailer duty and can get as little as 6 mpg. What gear ratio does the new truck have? |

| I drove my Excursion around for a while with 3.73's and 38" rubber, and it still got about the same mileage when it was empty. I was changing the entire front axle, Ex's only come with a D50, and I was having none of that, so while I was building a 60, I did drive it around. It was a pig from a stop light compared to the 4.88's, and the mileage with just the boat (could not even pull the toy hauler) was terrible. The whole thing about higher gears getting better mileage is kind of a falacy. Most don't realize the amount of effort a vehicle has to make to just get going. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the truck, but if the thing has stock gears, you will want to step up to a reasonable ratio. you will be much happier. Was also thinking that you could use this to your advantage. If the truck still has stock gears, you may use it as a negotiating tool to get a better deal. |
