250 vs 350

can you get an f-250 with the 7.3L engine, or are all 250's 6.0? if you can get one with a 7.3, what are the differences in the f-250 and f-350 with the 7.3L? also whats the difference in a a 250 or 350 that has DRW compared to SWR? are the dual wheels are that are different, or are the springs any different, gearing, shocks? i think ya get the picture. thanks for the help guys.

The 7.3L is no longer available, it went away, and the 6.0 has taken it's place. Now the 6.4 TT does all the motivational duties ffor the new 250 / 350 line-up.
Drw's are and have always been exclusive to the 350's. Could not get a 250 in a drw configuration.
Rear springs and overloads are different from 250 to 350 making the 350. The 350 has a higher towing and weight capacity than a 250 in both srw and drw configurations.
All gear ratios were available in both 250 and 350 configurations.
All SD's had a 10.5" Visteon rear axle. Thios axle is often refered to as the Sterling.

ya, they discontinued the 7.3 in early 2003. also, i think they said the 6.o had a litlle bit more trurbo than the 7.3. the difference is that you can haul more in the bed of a drw(weight wise) than you can in a srw becuz of the alxe can handle it. also, its more safe to haul a fifth wheel trailer with a dually. does this help?

why did they do away with the 7.3 and not 6.0 i thought the 6.0 was a POS?

big misconception! I have owned both, and other than too much boost with the 6.0, it is a very decent engine. Problems have really only occured when boost parameters have been pushed out of control.

75 is right for the most part. early build 6.0s (03-04) had the most problems. Pretty much everything since 05 have been great motors. There are still some out there that have problems but A good bit of those problems are caused by the owners and not the motor itself.

IMO though the 7.3 is the better way to go and it will stay that way until more people can get more miles on these new 6.4's

BTW I do have to say this. This last weekend out in phoenix one of my friends with a new 08 6.4 Crewcab F350 4x4 with training wheels has fought a long and hard battle for a program that would "delete" the regen on the new 6.4 motor and with that at a 80hp tune he ran a 16.4 in an otherwise completely stock truck!

what you mean by training wheels and why did he have to fight for the program?

my boss has an 03' f350 crew cab srw, with the 7.3 and bully dogs. he gets about 18mpg and the bully dog is all he has done to it.

i'm jsut figurin that with that kind of mileage and the dependability and power of a diesel. why should i buy a weaker, less dependable, lower mpg. gas engine truck

sorry training wheels is "slang" for dually.

the reason he had such a battle with the tuner is becuse he completely removed is DPF (diesel particulate filter) and CAT. and his truck would not come out of regen mode (where the truck burns off the stuff collected in the filter). It just took a while for someone to figure out how to turn the regen mode off.

driving to and from phoenix if he stayed around 70 MPH he was getting 23 MPG in a truck that big!!! That DPF kills the MPG and Performance!!
