Brake Dust

My 1999 F-250 Super Duty has four wheel disc brakes. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the front brakes do most of the stopping? But even with that shouldn't I get some brake dust on the rear wheels just like the front but not as much? If I let the truck go a while without washing, the front wheels show quite a bit of brake dust but the rear wheels never show any at all. I am not concerned about the pads as there is still plenty of brake pad left front and rear with the rear shoes almost 1/3 thicker. Perhaps my proportioning valve is not doing it's job properly???

Oddly enough, all of my vehicles with 4 wheel discs act this way. I have two super duties and they both never show any signs of brake dust. Even my earlier trucks with rear disc conversions do the same thing. I can lock up all four wheels so I know the rear brakes are working. Pretty sure you are all right.
Front to rear pads usualy werar at a rate of 2:1.
Two replacements of the front pads to 1 for the rear. Should also not that the rear pads are quite a bit smaller than the front ones, so the amount of dust (percentage wise) would naturally be less.
If you had a problem with pressure, your multi funtion valve would activate a brake light and trip a code.

The way I heard it explained, it has to do with a combination of static and air flow differences between front and rear.
I don't quite buy the static arguement, but the air pattern one seems like it could be.
Probably be another internet rumor before long.

I have stock alloy bullet hole rims on my truck with very small holes on them. I never have a problem with brake dust on them. Just regular road grime and dirt. petes got a good idea there.

i've never seen brake dust ruin rims. it might make them look bad, but they can be easily cleaned with the right detailing supplies.
