2002 F-350 V-10 problem with idol

I am having a problem with idol, the truck will not idol at the correct RPM, it is up to 1200 or higher and sometimes 2000. I disconnected the battery to try to reset the computer and it worked for one day.

I did not run any kind of test drives to train the truck becuase I do not know what speeds should be run for how long.

Any one know how to fix my problem?

Please help......

yes it will move around, go up and go down. As soon as I put the truck in park it will jump to over 1500 RPM and when in drive I can let the off the brake and the truck will go and get up to 30 MPH with out stepping on the gas.

This sounds like a vacuum leak. Since the engine is getting more air, it will require more fuel, and the engine tries to run away. It really thinks the throttle blade is open. Kinda the same thing.
Try to do some vacuum leak troubleshooting and I would be willing to bet that you will solve the problem.

I'm thinking maybe vacuum too, but it seems it could be "hunting"
First be sure you don't have a system voltage problem, then check vacuum.
If still not it I would suggest checking vss,o2,egr.
Hopefully you don't have a wandering fuel pump

So I do not understand why it would work for a day, when I disconnect the battery if it is a vacuum problem.

I believe that the ECM being disconnected and the problem is or was a concidence. Maybe it is related.
The problem does sound to be vacuum related and checking for vacuum leaks is easy and free to do. I usually try to eliminate the simple things first, and then move into the bigger troubles.
Getting the ECM re-flashed is an option, but unless you have a programmer, it is going to cost money at the dealership.
cractruck made a couple of decent suggestions. There does not seem like there is a problem with any random misfires, so this leads me to believe that there is a potential air leak.
Again, just a guess, but the symptoms seem to lead to this.
The engine requires three key elements to ignite fuel, and a proper ratio of air and fuel is necessary. Since you have an engine that ldles very high, you have too much fuel, and too much air. If the throttle blade is not open, the additional air has to be entering elsewhere, and then the engine will compensate for this by adding more fuel thus creating a high idle.

You could also have a dirty IAC valve. This is located on the back of the throttle body, and is known in the smaller engines to cause the engine to search for the right idle.

Could be way off here, but this is where I would start. Seems reasonable.

Those things are notorious for PCV lines failing causing a major vacuum leak at the maniford. You will need to take the cover off from the throttle body to see where the PCV line connects and that is where they fail... I would start there and report back here. I can run your VIN for any related service meassages from ford.
