Ranger locks axles...

It all started out when i could hear a louder than normal hum in my 4x4 ranger when i was driving down the road, i thought nothing of it and kept driving it. I may have made it worse... I took the tires off as well as the automatic hubs to make sure everything was still turning smoothly put it all back together and, as i was driving the front end would start to pulse and grab and then you would hear a loud crack as if something had snapped. It also made that sound when turning a corner. By a visual inspection it looks fine to me. I would like to know what could be the source of this problem.
Thanks, Ben

Found out that it may be coming from a wheel bearing being chewed up... the truck will be out of commision for a bit.

The wheel bearings were the source of the racket. they are now changed and it is running smoothly.

I saw this too late appearently. Sorry bud, seems you already got your answer, and looks like you already got it fixed. Wheel bearings was going to be my suggestion, then i read down and found you already caught it. Glad you got the truck fixed.... It is a good feeling huh?
