| Okay, let me give this a try. It said AXLE 61. Is that what you need? I wrote down some other numbers if that is not it. Thanks. |

| axle 61 is good. It is a 3.73 open differential. Should be a sterling 10.25 if single rear wheel. 3.73 isn't a bad gear for towing, but as 75K30 a taller gear like a 4.10 would really do you much better pulling the big ol' trailer..

| Thanks, it is a dually. So how would I go about getting a "taller gear"? Or am I stuck with the 3.73? And also, what is full lock up? |

| take it to a shop. doing it yourself is not a task i recommend unless you know exactly what is ahead of you and have the proper tools. gears are not really expensive but the labor might be a little more. however, it beats the price of another tranny. |

| If it is Dually you will have a dana 80. I agree with Brad. I would start looking into local reputable shops to do it for you. Full lock up is when the torque converter fully locks. Until the converter locks it is still "slipping" (which it is designed to do) and not lettering the motor and tranny work at their best efficiency.

| So a Dana 80 still a 3.73 open differential? Without calling around and asking for estimates, what kind of price am I looking at? About how long would it take? |

| yes dana 80 with open diff with 3:73's. with gears and labor probably just shy of 1000, but I'm not sure. I don't know what the book calls for on changing the gears out.. If the shop isn't busy shouldnt take more than a few hours

| Okay I pulled the trailer for the first time today. When I cranked the truck up it was a whole lot quieter. Would a new tranny make it that much quieter?? And you could definitely feel it pulling better, a whole lot smoother changing gears. |

| A friendly bump so that maybe someone could tell me why it is running quieter. |

| hmm.. not really sure why it is running quieter... Shouldn't have changed anything having the tranny rebuilt... Unless the old one was causeing a huge strain on the motor... do have to say this is the frst I've heard of that.
