| i just cant believe that every single broke redneck that jacked up there truck to run it through the lake has to spend this insane large amount of money and all of the performance upgrades. it doesn't make sense. and i refuse to believe that the truck that i pictured has all this coin into it. it doesn't make sense! |

| well there is a difference between their trucks and the ones we are talking about. most of us on here don't like to do something more than once. it's not fun to fix your rig every time you go out to play. most of those guys probably spend most of their weekends pulling parts from the scrap yard. i don't know about you but i could find something a little more fun to do with my weekends.

Alright, so you have an F250 which means that you start out with 3/4 ton running gear. You still have a Dana 60 rear, and if it is stock from 72, it is a coarse spline unit and is very easily broken. There is a difference between weight capacity, with reference to GVW and the torsional strength of an axle shaft. Either way the truck will still have a D44 front axle, and it will still have to be replaced. Neither of these axles is gonna survive with this lightweigh running gear. Here is about the order of things to come. 1) purchase components to lift the vehicle. (easy way would be to run the 99-04 Super Duty front springs, they require little modification to use them under your truck.) You will have to figure out steering, and brakes. Your truck came with drum brakes, and you are neither going to steer it with the stock push / pull system, nor will you get the truck stopped. 2) buy some used Michelin XZL's and install them 3) drive for the first time and realize the truck does not have the puppy power to turn the tires. As stated above, after finding a small hill to help get the truck some momentum, realize that the drum brakes are not the best idea for these large tires. 4) soon realize that the transfer case is a single speed unit, and with no low range is alost impossible to turn the new michelins. 5) find a 2 speed transfer case, and realize that a new low range almost makes the tires turn, but still finds difficulty. 6) decide to pay for a new set of differential gears, have them installed, and bust one of the small axles. 7) determine that the approach with the small running gear was not the way to go, and spending the dough in the first time was not such a great idea. (this is where things get interesting, and most projects end here) 8) After a little more research, make a realization that some experience has played a major role in this build, and some folks have done this before, and tried to share some of the same experience with you. Tires this size are huge. Heak, just buy one, and try rolling it around for a little while. Now imagine your truck having to do this between every stop sign, and light. | |

That is my point. Any broke redneck can jack up a truck. But is it done right? I have seen many of these trucks get pulled out in pieces, or worse yet not pulled out at all. Get your SCUBA gear because I can take you to three trucks in Florida at three different holes we use to play at. You asked for advice and the experienced people here are trying to give it to you. You can build a truck on a budget, but what you want requires experience and money. Your 250 can be built into a very capable rig. But you are not going to build the monster you want with the foundation you have. So quit complaining and work some over time if you want to play with the big dogs.
