Transmission Question

Hi all, I'm usually on the horse forum, but have urgent need of truck advise.

I have a 99 F250 V10. It has been parked for about a month as I took the battery out to put in another truck. So this morning I went bought a new battery, put it in, started the truck and transmission fluid just started shooting out of the dipstick Has anyone ever heard of this before?
What could the problem be?

I pray the transmission has not gone, I just had to put a new one in my
Company Van, and just can't afford to do it again just yet.

Any advice on what I should look at would be deeply appreciated.
Thank You

I would check the breather tube on the top of the transmission to make sure it is not obstructed. I'm not sure of the exact location but it will be on the top of the tranny towards the center under the cab.

yup and check the level, *when not runing* should be approximatly 1-2 inches over the full line...

I can't find anything about the breather tube in the book.
Where would that be?

I am not too sure that the breather tube is the problem this time.
Ah, haaaaa,,,,,dramatic pause,,,,,,,,,,Check the fluid level while cold, and with the engine not running.
Do not start the engine, and verify the level. I would bet a cold beer that this transmission os way over full. You ask, "how could it be overfull, if I did not add any fluid?" This sounds crazy, but the key here is that the vehicle was allowed to sit for a long period of time, and I believe that the converter has drained fluid back into the pan. This extra fluid cant be pumped back into the converter fast enough, and just like an overfull trans, the fluid has to find a place to go. In this case it acts like an pverfull trans, because it is overfull for a little while.
You will make a mess, or you will remove some fluid, then start the engine, and add fluid accordingly, you should be good to go.
The key here is that the truck sat for so long, and in your description you mentioned that immediately the fluid started coming out. Typically if the vent was blocked and the level was correct, it would take a little while to develop some heat before it pumped out of the dipstick tube.
I am not cnotradicting anyone here, only trying to add a little difference of opinion here.
Good luck......
