oil pan gasket or rear main seal

its a 90 ford f150 with a 302. either the oil pan gasket is broken or the rear main seal is busted. can i replace these two things with out doing too much to the truck? all i have is a standard set of tools and doing it in my driveway over the weekend, how difficult will it be?

oil pan gasket is easy depending on how close that arm is underneath it. cant remember on ford but chevys come in one piece and 2 piece rear main seals. want to take a stab in the dark how fun the one piece is or rather what is involved??

its a 2 piece rear main so you have to nudge the tranny back a little and lift the motor to get it in there... as for the oil pan gasket it is easier if you lift the motor to get it in... i would do both a the same time if your going to do it at all... but with outa cherry picker you sol

Man I was gonna start a thread about this very thing because I just noticed the other day when I did the once over on my truck that my oil pan and rear main seal are leaking a little oil and I was wondering if I had to slide my tranny or lift my 350 at all to get to those.

so basically for me if its the rear main seal its going to my mechanic cause i dont wanna mess that up and it should be a simple Saturday doing the gasket as long as things go smoothly.

be sure its the main, a lot of times it looks like the main but is really the back of the rocker cover leaking down the back
