fuel gauge wont work I put a new rear gas tank on my 86 ford f 150. it had a front tank but i took that out and plugged up the gas line and left the electrical cord on the frame rail. I hooked everything up correctly on the rear but the fuel gauge will not work, I put 20 bucks in it and it says says I am on dead empty. any ideas?

yea, I can drive it around and it works wonderful its just there is nothing to the fuel gauge, i can drive around and fill up every few days until it works. i looked at the wires from the sending unit on up to where it plugs in the dash and there was no cuts and it was set up right and still nothing. I am starting to wonder if I should find a place and buy a new sending unit.

possibility. unusual that it stopped working after you done the work. might try taking a multimeter to it and test continueity (sp??) across there and move the float up and down.

You may have bent the float when manuvering it into the hole? may have gotten the top hold down position flat when you spun the hold down nut the gasket does go between the flat round part and the tank...
