Aux backup/utility lights

Hello everyone, what is involved in hooking up two lights on my hitch so that I can have added light when backing up/hooking up my trailer at night?

I would like to have two lights on the hitch and have control over them via a switch inside the cab. I don't want to hook them up so that they come on when I put it in reverse.

Do I need to run a wire to a relay and then to a switch or is there some line I can splice and just take the power from it?

Where can I get a nice little switch for the lights?

What kind of lights would work best for this? (I was thinking of just getting some tractor lights from tractor supply)

Is there any trick or tip that I should know before doing this?

Btw, the truck is a 92 f-250 IDI diesel 4x4 ext cab

Thanks in advance,

Steve

mine come on when i put it in reverse. i just spliced in to the reverse wire and ground them to the frame.

these are the best pics i have of them.

if you want it on to a switch, i can explain it later, at work right now.

basically all you need is fog lights... mount them to your bumper underneather pointer twards your trailer and then run the wires... all you need to do is ground the one to the bumper and then run a wire up into the cab to the switch that came with the fog lights and then splice into your radio or cig lighter hot wire... just put in inline fuse right after the switch going to the back this way if the wire gets damaged by road debree it wont blow any of your fuses inside the truck

Yeah, I was thinking of just splicing it in the reverse lights but then I have to have it in reverse for the lights to work... alittle dangerous if you're tryin' to hook up a trailer with the truck in reverse

go with the tractor supply purchase, they will work fine. make sure you buy a switch with a light inside or some kind of indicator light and use a circuit that is live only with the ignition on
