| automatic to manual question someone wants to trade a 94 150 4x4 with an iffy automatic for some car i have. which doesn't matter to me i also own a 88 150 with a 4 speed manual 4x4. question i have, can i take the manual and transfercase and bolt it right up into the 94's frame/body? i think i'll have problems with the steering colum, but, i figure i'd put it in neutral so the key turns. not worried about the clutch start switch. and isn't the tunnel hump cut out for the shifter? and should be a plug for the clutch petal assembly? another question is what about the computer on the 94? will it still give engine functions with the transmission unplugged? reason for this is i hate automatics. nothing but trouble, and they can't take the foot to the floor torque in highgear like a manual can. anymore info you need just ask. all i can think of off the top at the moment. |

| being a 94 you shouldn't have too big of a problem with the computer.. it was before obdII so i think there would only be limited amounts of info it would need but I'm not sure. The tranny and transfer case should bolt into the existing frame. the only thing I could think of is you might have to relocate the crossmember if the manual is shorter/longer than the auto. Never done this one before but my bro swapped a zf5 for a e40d with very few problems. should be fairly uneventful...

| the ob2 started in the 1995 and newer trucks..... so the computer wont care........ My buddy and I did the same swap on a 1978 chevy and put in a 1997 manual tranny when we were in highschool ...... just be sure you have the correct friction plate to mate to the motor GM did change the bolt patterns on the cranks several times and you may have some drive line issues.... we had to have the front lengthened by 2 inches. it took us 2 evenings of work and it was drivable...... might I suggest changing all the fluids in the tranny too...... we burned up a "good" tranny cause we didn"t.... but it isnt too hard. |
