| egr i was looking under the hood today and i noticed that on the egr valve there is no vacumm line plugged in.on top of the intake where there are vac lines, one of the hoses is plugged off. i thought it went to the egr and while running i put the hose on the egr and the idle dropped way down and the motor ran bad . is the egr bad and with no vacumm to the egr could that cause the motor to idle high when the motor is warmed up? |

| thanks crab, i didn't recognize the post. It sounds like you are on the right track, Are you getting a CE light? sounds like someone was playing and you will need to check the vac line routing. We need a ford guru again with a diagram to help you.......

| It is a 88 f250 with a 5.0 there is a bracket on top of the engine that holds 4 or 5 vacumm lines going everywhere. I saw one line plugged off. It was the right length to the egr valve. Just thought that is where it went and that is my high idle problem. |

| It may have been disconnected because the egr is bad, but i would check the routing

| Seem to recall a missing restrictor for the EGR could cause that hi idle / surge thing. May want to check the right EGR is in there, and clean and working. I was thinking adding a vac to EGR would lower the RPMs, IDK. Seems like the vac routing should have been on your VECI sticker with EngCode=8k360-AA, Calibration#7-54W-R11 for f250<6,000GVW Been a lot of years and I am not a ford guy. May want to look at these: for codes by jumper, codes may still be in memory- AutoZone.com | Vehicle Selection - Year for vac hoses (88 should be similar to 87 I think) AutoZone.com | Vehicle Selection - Year |

| high idle i went to a garage today and had it scanned. the codes were 51,34. they said because the truck will not warm to operating temp it is causing the coolant sensor code. i replaced the thermastat and ran it for 15min with cap off to get the air out.could it be the gauge be bad and causing the computer to make it idle high? |
