Newbie needs more help I have a 1991 7.3 diesel when I drive home from work ( 10 mile drive ) and pull in my drive the truck runs rough then dies when I am applying the brake to stop. It will restart and run till I shut it off. This never happens in the morning going to work just in the afternoon at home

Check your trans fluid level.... May sound goofy but low fluid level will cause the converter clutch to lock up and kill the engine. A sticking TCC solenoid will do the same thing but check the fluid first.

It could also be a sticking governor in the injector pump. Might be worth running a can of a good fuel system cleaner thru it (like Lucas or Diesel Kleen). Can`t see the braking can have anything to do with it. | |

I think tjzz4 has hit the nail on the head. Check the transmission fluid level with the trans in Park and at normal operating temperature. If it is good then another possibility is that the transmission internal fluid filter has become dislodged.

The TCC solenoid is the torqye converter clutch solenoid and it is part of a solenoid body accessible by removing the pan. Your main trans harness plugs into it on the right side of the trans. Good point on the filter becoming dislodged as well.
