HELP! trans woulde downshift once it did it woulded upshift !

Help again please ! my sons 1993 F150 is acting up he went to work this morning and said it would not downshift and once it did downshift it would not upshift. Is the trans gone bad ? or could it be the shift solinoid gone bad ? please any help you can give me would be great . Thank you !

shift solenoids have nothing to do with down shifting. how is the trans fluid? was it cold when it happened? a trans just bleeds off it's fluid pressure when it downshifts. you might have a valve body problem or old thick fluid that needs to be replaced.

It was cold this morning around -4 not sure but think he changed the filter and fluid before he started driving this truck. i'll ask him for sure if he has new fluid in it or not . thanks.

Is the O/D light blinking? It might be a good idea to see if there are any stored codes.

just to let you guys know his truck is fine now don't know what really went on with it but he took it out that afternoon and he said it was back to its old self and now he even thinks the trans is shiftinf better then before ! could something have been in the trans and moved around and got stuck or ? something fine i meen he said it had a new filter and all new fluid but i was just wondering if something could have come loose and got into someplace it shoulded have? anyhow thanks a lot for your help !
