Explorer wont start

Hi all,

I just joined the site and so far looks pretty cool .

I need some help with my Sons 1996 Explorer. It seems he tried to siphon fuel from it this A.M. and after several attempts to get the hose down the inlet tube, he gave up & now it will not start. I have checked all the obvious things to see if maybe he accidently knocked a wire loose, etc. I have even checked that fuel cut off, (inertia) switch. When I turn the key to on I cannot hear the fuel pump whine, I could before. I'm wondering since this has a submersable fuel pump, is it possible that he did some damage when trying to siphon gas out of it ? Or is there some sore of safety feature which perhaps senses someone trying to "steal" gas and it shuts down the fuel pump ? I need help as I am at my wits end .
P.S. FWIW it is a V-6 4.0
Thanks in advance

Tim
