06 Powerstroke Running Bad When Cold i have a 2006 F250 4wd Powerstroke, auto trans. It runs PERFECT at operating temperature BUT when i first start it up and before it reaches operating temperature it runs like ****, it idles fine but if you try and drive it runs terrible and blows blue smoke a little bit. I am curious as to what my problem could potentially be, i am not thinking injectors because once it warms up it runs like brand new and doesn't miss a beat. Any ideas anybody?

You have a sticking injector. There is a calibration update the dealer can do that preheats the injector to help this problem but it does not work in all cases.. usually does but if not then it will need to be replaced. You have a 5 year 100000 mile warranty so if you are under 100K then the dealer will take care of it for you.

It is out of warranty, i bought the truck used and it was out of warranty, this has not been a problem til recently even when it was really cold it was not doing this. Can you elaborate on the calibration? How and what type of device is used for this? I am interested in finding out more about it. thank you

| it should be the calibration/programming for the FICM (fuel injection control module) There have been many people with this issue and ford should have a TSB out on it.

You might have some luck there... The condition is known as "stiction" and is the spool valve in the injector sticking when cold. The updated program heats the spool valve to help eliminate the stiction condition on cold start up. Ford also recommends using the lightest weight oil you can use for the climate you are in. If you contact ford that is the first thing they will want to know providing the FICM is at the latest calibration level. I did 2 6.0 injectors today and one last week. We keep several in stock all the time and 9 out of 10 are replaced for this concern.
