removing my bell housing

Hey all, I recently removed my transmission (pretty sure it is a C4) and now i need to get the bell housing off to get the converter out. The problem is, the bell housing seems to get stuck when I try and pull it out, no matter how much I muscle it out. It's getting wedged between the cab floor/firewall and this bar underneath the housing I'm worried I have to take the engine out in order to remove this simple piece. Please tell me there's an easier way.

those bellhousings have lineup pins that tend to get difficult to break loose. i do not believe i have had a problem like this taking off a torque converter as there are only 4 bolts that hold it onto the flexplate. undo one, turn the engine over and loosen the next, and so on. should come right out.

So I resorted to pulling my engine. I bought a nice 3-ton Cherrypicker for $60 and pulled the engine up by myself. I'm really trying to stay independent, but as you all may have guessed thats where trouble started. I got careless and impatient and hooked the chain up wrong and the whole engine tumbled off. It ripped off a bunch of wires and lines, and crushed the distributor cap and fuel pump. You wouldnt believe how furious i was

So its been almost a month since the incident, and I've tallied up what I need to replace what was destroyed.
As follows:
Automatic Trans cooling lines
Brakes line
Oil pressure hose
Fuel Pump
Distributor Cap (I super glued the pieces together, doubt it'll work)
Engine temperature line
and i STILL need to put the transmission back, although I took it all apart and put it abck together with NO guidance or reference whatsoever Im quite proud of myself.

All this, just to try to go for a manual transmisison

Did I see that? I thnk I did, cuz Mud even quoted it. I had to go get my glasses and make sure that is what that said. I know what I am doing wrong with those broken dizzy caps now. I need to get some crazy glue. And all this time, I been thinkin duct tape would work. Man, this forum is great !!! I'd have never thought of that on my own.

You got a steal on a hoist for $60. Did you ever get the bell housing off? I'd have taken that off with the trans as a complete unit. You would have had more leverage and pull on the bell bolted to the trans. Some of those old trucks, I know the 60's Chev and GMC's did, had a cover over the hump where you could remove the center section of the floot to get to the bell housing bolts and would have given you more clearance too.

Oh and BTW, being married to a women is about the same as being married to your truck, the more work you do, the Thanks is about the same. More Work. Differance is, the woman MIGHT, cook you a meal occasionally.

Haha you learn lots of new things on here! I did get the bell housing off and took a big can of engine degreaser to it too, somehow those things are a dirt magnet. Im gonna head over to Napa auto parts and see what they can do for me with parts. The way you word that, it sounds like home cooked meals are hard to come by.

In this day and age where women are getting lazier and lazier. Uhh yes it is getting hard to come by. But, I have been able to outcook any women I have ever had around, so no big deal. That is probably what keeps them around. As long as they'll do the dishes, I'll do the cooking. I prefer it that way anyway. Its not nice to lie to a girl and tell her you like what she cooked especially when you hate it.
