As for Seafoam and hydralocked engine if you don`t follow the directions on a pack of asprin it can kill you.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I heard about Seafome through this forum. My first application, I wearily applied it to my ol beatup stratus and I was amazed at the results. Since then I have applied this treatment to 5 other cars all ranging from only 60k all the way up to 240k 4bangers, 6's and 8's of different makes. The results continued to be impressive.

Seafome has made a believer out of me but like all things, ONLY WHEN USED CORRECTLY.

A hydrolocked engine is an engine that has had a liquid (usually water) enter into the cylinders. Water doesn't compress and a combustion engine MUSTcompress oxygen in order to operate. If a greater volume of water enters the cylinder than there is available at the top of the piston stroke then that cylinder will lock (become unable to move further to complete its stroke) and usually something breaks like a connecting rod or a hole will be introduced into your block.

When using seafome (or any additive for that matter) directly through the brake booster hose care must be taken not to pour too much at once to leave enough room in the cylinders to allow the pistons full travel without damage. Slow and steady wins in this case.

Hydrolocking is a big no-no all the way around and something I hope you never have to experience. Here's some reading on the subject if you're still curious.

they make it for different things.

the fact is, you can add some mechanic in a can and it may help, but in the long run, your still going to be replacing a bad trans. the trans probably has worn clutches or valve body problems. worst case scenario, you add the can, it increases your line pressure to apply more pressure to your clutches and burns it out before you notice there's a problem.
a can also cannot fix broken internals like a sunshell and such.
if it's broke, fix it, don't put a bandaid on it.

Maybe I should just tell you guys what the problem is then!!! Brilliant idea on my part!
When shifting it into Drive it doesn't always "catch".... sometimes you have to play with it a little.
Anybody experience this before?

Should I tear it apart and see what the problem is?

could be a shift linkage problem or something wrong with the valve body.

Umm, what's the valve body?

Anybody have a good article about the specific parts of the transmission? I have a lot to learn.

i honestly wouldn't touch the trans if i was you. i know you want to learn and all, but i would find one out of the junk yard to tear into.
i'm certified in both auto and manual trans repair and even i would be hesitant about tearing into my trucks trans. there are a lot of little parts and gaps have to be exact or it will not work.

at any rate, autozone should have a book in their repair manuals section.
